This book starts with basic philosophical principles coupled with relevant Papal Encyclicals to arrive at a free market economics the Catholic Church has historically labeled Subsidiarity. A must read for Catholics tired of the socialism and Liberation Theology heard preached from the pulpit and read about in "Catholic" media. The quotes from the Papal Encyclicals alone are worth the price of the book.

Economics of Catholic Subsidiarity Mr James A DePrisco 9781535109901 Books

The poor rating review has errors in it. If you look at the Amazon blurb I wrote, I state that the quoted Papal Encyclicals are worth the price of the book. Yes, I "copied and pasted" the quotes from the encyclicals. You busted me, I admit I didn't write those encyclicals. As far as not discussing subsidiarity, I have no idea what he is talking about. He does admit he didn't read the whole book. What does that mean? 10 pages? Finally, the subject is the ECONOMICS of Catholic Subsidiarity, and why it is the best system. So yes there is a lot of related ECONOMIC discussion which is required if you want to understand the topic.

Economics of Catholic Subsidiarity Mr James A DePrisco 9781535109901 Books Reviews

Not sure what the negative reviewer was reading. The book is spot-on with providing a background of what Subsidiarity is, especially from the viewpoint of the popes. This is not cut-and-pasting, this is quoting (and were properly attributed in the book). The author is very explicit about where his point-of-view comes in, but you get a lot of definitional work as well such as soviets, national socialism, Distributism, etc. A good read, I'm now interested to see if he writes a follow-up.
This is not a review of the book. It's a paean as much as a preview and determined recommendation based on my experience with the author's steadfast Faith, Fortitude and Herculean intellect. In the course of the last 10 years, it has been my pleasure and good fortune to have had discussions and a seat in the audience as Mr. DePrisco clearly elucidates the complexities of economics in the simplest of terms. Ayn Rand Capitalist, Stalinesque Communist or even Chestertonian Distributist alike will be enlightened.
I cannot even begin to express my disappointment with this book. In fact, writing this review I cannot even remember if I got through the whole thing. I bought this book because I wanted to understand more about Catholic Subsidiarity. What is it, examples of application, strength, weaknesses, etc. This book provided none of that and was terrible. Nothing but a long diatribe about his personal opinions. Sections looked copied and pasted, probably from other places. It was just aweful. Save yourself the money. I wish I could get mine back.
